About Us
Youth-Mates is a youth development initiative created under our parent platform, Trade-Mates. The programme is designed to support young people—particularly those from underserved communities—through a structured combination of hands-on carpentry skills, teamwork, and personal development.
Our core aim is to provide an engaging, practical environment where participants can build confidence, develop discipline, and gain exposure to pathways within the trades. We use carpentry as a vehicle to teach transferable life skills such as communication, responsibility, problem-solving, and resilience.
The programme is delivered in a 10-week format, with weekly sessions that focus on:
- Practical woodworking and basic tool skills
- Team-based projects to encourage collaboration and leadership
- Guided discussions around personal development and life skills
- Building a sense of achievement through completing tangible projects
Youth-Mates has been developed to complement existing youth and training initiatives by offering an alternative, hands-on approach to engagement—particularly for young people who may not thrive in traditional classroom settings.
We are currently delivering an initial pilot in partnership with Offaly Traveller Movement, working directly with young participants to refine and strengthen the programme model. Our long-term vision is to expand Youth-Mates across additional communities and organisations, creating scalable pathways into skills development, training, and employment opportunities.
We would love to hear from you.
